Dutch symphonic metal act Ex Libris - featuring ex-Xandria vocalist Dianne van Giersbergen - launched a crowdfunding campaign for the upcoming third album "Ann." Get onboard with perks and exclusive updates over at this location. The campaign runs until July 15th.
"Ann" is a three part progressive metal trilogy, which will be divided into three mini albums, the first of which is "Chapter 1: Anne Boleyn," which will feature three tracks. The band talks about part 1: "So who was Anne Boleyn? Well she was Queen of England from 1533 to 1536 as the second wife of King Henry VIII. Henry's marriage to her, and her subsequent execution by beheading, made her a key figure in the political and religious upheaval that was the start of the English Reformation. Our story picks up in 1526, when Anne returns to Hampton Court and Henry VIII begins his pursuit of her."
On the campaign, the band commented: "'Ann' - our third full length album, will be divided into three releases, of which the first 'Chapter 1: Anne Boleyn' is now exclusively available via this crowdfunding campaign! But that's not all: you may also pre-order chapter 2 and 3 to make sure your collection will be complete while supporting us in realizing this new concept album! Pledge to our campaign and select the unique perks that we have created for you! Help us achieve our goal, be part of the future and receive, apart from our newest songs, our everlasting gratitude!"
On the album, the band added: "'Ann' is not only the title of our third album, it is also the name that binds the three women from the different chapters together. Each from a different time, a different place and a different background, but all three of the women have a story that needs to be told. Or... - for those familiar with our 'Medea'-album- a story that needs to be brought back to life through Dianne's voice. The music of the three chapters will be supporting each story in sound and vision. Where 'Chapter 1: Anne Boleyn' (which contains almost 20 minutes of music!) can be characterized as a blend between modern and vintage progressive metal, chapter 2 and 3 will bring different flavors. Throughout the whole album, 'Ann' will consist of a wide variety of vocal colors, strong melodies, heavy riffing, progressive rhythms, ambient atmospheres and a high level of virtuosity!"
The album's artwork can be seen below. Like the music, the artwork is also divided into three chapters: Each cover will show the portrait of the woman who's story is told. When all chapters are completed and released three covers will reveal to be the trilogy that together is "Ann." The artwork of is designed by 2D artist and illustrator Jelle Steenhuisen. Steenhuisen is mostly known for his work as game illustrator and specializes in character design, which makes him the perfect artwork designer for "Ann."
